For all those people not related to the medical profession, skip this post. For all the people related to the medical profession who have just had enough of medical stuff, also skip this post.  I found this video extremely helpful. Yes, it can get a bit too boring, so I would recommend  that watch it in bits and pieces. For all those who didnot enjoy the above video, my question is 'kis nay kaha tha kay pepsi painsath kee kar do!' As we smile away.... And in the end I'd leave you with this video. My nana used to sing it with us almost every morning. It was such fun! I dedicate this to my brothers Arif (of arificialintelligence fame) and Junaid,  as we frequently sing this and smile away.

If I could change.........

Halaat kharab hain.

Image
A phrase which is so familiar. A phrase I heard a few minutes back. But life goes on in Karachi. People are killed around like ants. Its ironic. Sad, disgusting. Traumatic, yes. Just yesterday I was talking to my brother that I would like to talk about these terrible halaat, but then I don't have a solution. I don't like to talk about things that I don't have a solution to. As you scroll through the various channels, everyone is talking. There are people crying. Someone's brother, father, son, husband has been killed. This is media kee azadi. Thanks to the media, we now know about (almost) every single person who has died. You feel sorry that they have, but couldn't do much. Its funny that all those who can, do seem unable to do anything either. So what right, another poor man died. The power remains with us..........

Hum zinda qaum hain!

Happy independance day to all! Its been years now. So this independance day lets see what our countrymen and women have to say... I am proud of Pakistan because . . . . . . . Huma (Year two resident) Because my family is here. Gulnaz (Intern) I like Pakistan because it does not ask you for any other liscensing exam after MBBS/FCPS unlike foreign countries. Nasreen (Year one resident) Because this is my country, my identity. I have spent 27 years of my life here (earned, laughed, cried, grew up ) and did a lot. The people I love are here. I have may family and friends here. No doubt there are millions of lackings, problems and issues here but there are uncountable emotions, lots of love and many reasons for me to love it..... I simply love Pakistan! Ghulam Abbas (Year one resident) Because whatever I got, respect, name, my identity all that is because of my beloved country, Pakistan. Kashif (Year two resident) I used to be wh

To whom it may concern

There he lays. Fourty five year old gentleman, who looks as if he is sixty five. One of his eye is damaged. The other one moves unpurposefully. Half his face is wasted. He can hardly move his body. There is an occasional flicker of his muscles here and there. He has a PEG tube in his abdomen (PEG tube is a tube put via skin into the stomach to ensure feeding). This time around he has been admitted with complaints of difficulty breathing and cough. His examination and chest xray says that he has pneumonia. The family says that he was affected by a bomb blast two years back, a bomb blast in Lyari. Gang war. People against people, not an animal against an animal.  He has been like this ever since. His sons were younger then. These two years have been difficult, very difficult for the family. There are no chances of any meaningfull recovery. Yes the pneumonia may be treated, but he will remain in the same state............ It angers me. Bothers me. How can you hurt a fellow human b

Iftaari

Iftari. The time we absolutely love. My childhood iftaris seemed to be pretty simple. A few samosas, rooh afza sharbat, followed by dinner. As we started to move our iftaris also evolved. The menu bloomed while in Lahore. The food available in Lahore is just awesome. My father used to buy dahi baras and fruit chaat. They were just amazing! Chaating away! It was there that I learnt how to make my first fruit chaat (we Sindhis usually donot make fruit chaats ). My class fellow taught me how to. I made it with lemon juice and put in a little too much. I still remember the too tangy taste of it!  The latest modified one that is now made by Chef Zarka is  with Tang (in the absence of oranges). Add in any fruit available (and yes mangoes taste exotic in it), some tang, a dash of water, salt, pepper, some sugar, mix, and hand it over to the refrigerator an hour earlier so that the taste all blends in. My first roza

The thought of my fast came back only once I was done with the delight! Some part of my childhood was spent in my Nana's place. As ramazan came, we used to be inspired by adults and wanted to fast. My grandparents woke us up for Sehri. That used to be real fun. My grandma cooking sehri, my Nana sitting on a mat closeby helping her out with the cooking now and again. Then the rest of the family would wake up. We would all have sehri but as we were too young hence our fast broke at around 12 noon. Cute. A fast in summers My first official roza was when I was in class two. It was a long summer day. Heat scorching. We used to go to our Baji's place (A lady in our neighbourhood ) for Quran lessons. There in the break, I heard the kulfi walla chanting out, "Kulfi wala bhai, malai wali kulfi!". I completely forgot that I was fasting and bought the kulfi. It was so delicious. The thought of my fast came back only once I was done with the delight. I fel
